Dr. Ramesh Sarin — published by Apollo as Dr. Mrs. Ramesh Sarin — is Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology at the Apollo Cancer Centre, New Delhi, specialising in breast oncology, with over 40 years in the field. She held a fellowship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, in 1979–80, and worked in the UK for six years, where she obtained her FRCS. She was Assistant Professor of Surgery at AIIMS from 1975 to 1982 and Associate Professor from 1983 to 1986, then Head of Surgical Oncology at a Ministry of Health hospital in Abu Dhabi, where she helped start a cancer centre. She was a founder member of the Indian Society of Oncology. Her stated areas of interest are breast conserving surgery with oncoplasty, radical and subcutaneous mastectomy with autologous and implant reconstruction, and sentinel node biopsy in patients who have had neo-adjuvant chemotherapy. She is Chairperson of the Forum for Breast Cancer Protection, an NGO that has produced films on breast cancer and runs screening and self-examination awareness lectures.
